Our First Anniversary!

Hello!

As Doolphy’s CEO, I take the opportunity that we are celebrating to make my first post in the Doolphy Blog.

Doolphy_AnniversaryThe occasion is special because we’re about to turn one year old! A year ago we started this project, full of enthusiasm and hope, and, why not admit it, fear and uncertainty.

Today we look back and see with pride the road travelled so far, but with humility and motivation to know that we still have much to do. It was not easy, has been a busy year, but we have met most of our goals. We launched worldwide the first free beta in January this year and our first commercial release in late April.

1,000 registered accounts!

In addition, we double celebration because we have just reached our first 1,000 registered accounts.

Doolphy Beta Keeps Growing Thanks To You

Project Management Sotware : Doolphy

Hello everyone,

It’s been 2 months and a couple of days since we launched the beta version of Doolphy and you could start enjoying our on-line project management tool for free.

We want to use this post to thank all of you for the great reception that the application has had and, in particular, for the great feedback that we have received. It is because of this feedback that we can add useful new features, improve the existing ones and make the app fit your needs.

Like you, other users have already seen how, thanks to their requests and suggestions, some issues and errors have been fixed and improved in the tool. Among those we can point out small bug fixes in the generation of charts, which didn’t show the proper selected data, and improvements on the stability of the software. We have also renamed some forms fields and buttons to help to make clear their function. In addition, some changes addressing usability issues have been done regarding graphic design (menu size, icons, color schema), content (table information, form structure, …) and some small maintenance changes that improve the user experience, and make Doolphy an easier and more intuitive tool.

New in Doolphy: Roles and Permissions

This week, Doolphy users have reasons to feel excited about the new developments that we’re bringing to the application. As you know, we are in beta version and working in creating an application to satisfy most of your needs. To this end, we are improving existing features and also working on new ones.

Today, we’re launching a freshly baked feature that is already available in the application. It is the system of roles and permissions for the users in your team.

What are roles and permissions? How can they help us?

A rol is a set of permissions on specific areas and functionalities of Doolphy which can be configured to define what each user can do in the application.

Thanks to this system you can create a set with a number of different roles that later can be assigned to users depending on the work that they have to carry out.

Benefits of the SaaS Project Management Software

So far, we have written about our new application and about the model in which it is based. However, we haven’t touched the reason why it is important for a company to have a tool to manage its projects. Given the current situation of all companies, we all find the necessity of working harder, faster and in several projects at the same time, optimizing expenses in order to obtain the best profitability possible. To achieve this goal the best movement is to learn how to organize our resources and employee time to maximize the functionality of our company. This is not easy though. When a company deals with several projects at the same time, and is possibly composed by a multidisciplinary or geographically distributed team, communication issues may arise. E-mail, telephone, meetings can be used to improve the situation but they aren’t necessarily the best possible way.

This issue is addressed by a number of software solutions such as video conferences, instant messaging, synchronization tools, social networks, etc. However today we want to comment on a tool that is gaining a lot of traction lately: the project management software on demand.

Let’s Talk About SaaS…

In recent posts we have presented our tool, Doolphy, and as you may remember we said that it is based on the SaaS model. Let’s get some insights into what this model means since it is getting a lot of buzz lately.

There are many definitions of SaaS, but this one is the preferred by us:

SaaS is a software distribution model by the means of which an information technology company (IT) provides the services of maintenance, daily operation and user support for certain software

With this model, the traditional concept of software license disappears and users subscribe to the service. In that sense, the customer just pays for the use of the service not having to incur in expenses related to hardware or software maintenance. The first direct benefit from this is that it is possible to keep the software expenses to a constant level, and some times these expenses are lower than in traditional software.
